The Leadership Engine
Noel M. Tichy
We regularly send books to the top leadership of our clients'
organizations, but few have been received with as much enthusiasm as
this book. We have received numerable notes and phone calls thanking us
for The Leadership Engine, with explanations of the impact it has had on
their own leadership philosophy. Tichy does a superb job in helping
leaders see the importance of taking direct responsibility for
leadership development at every level of their organization. He then
unpacks a practical, step-by-step strategy helping to effectively
implement these principles. This book is a must-read. |

Leading Change - The Argument for
Values-Based Leadership
James O'Toole
O'Toole proposes a vision of
leadership rooted in moral values and a high level of respect for
followers. Although at times a bit philosophic, he does one of the best
jobs we have seen in explaining why values-based leadership is so
powerful and effective. He explores the reasons why people resist change
and supports his arguments with insightful illustrations. Be prepared to
take notes and think deeply as you delve into this very insightful book. |

A Force for Change: How Leadership Differs
from Management John Kotter
In this book, Kotter makes one of the best
distinctions between leadership and management we've ever seen. We have
found that all too often management is held in disdain when every
organization needs both disciplines. However, Kotter argues that in
today's environment of high velocity change, organizations need more
leadership than they can generally field. Although the core of the book
revolves around what Kotter calls "leadership subprocesses"
(establishing direction, aligning people, and motivating and inspiring),
Kotter provides valuable insight into how leadership really works in
complex organizations. He also delves into the origins of the
development of effective leadership. |

Primal Leadership
Daniel Goleman
Goleman is a researcher and author of the best-selling Emotional Intelligence
(1995), in which he put forth a winning concept the authors call
emotional intelligence, which is defined as the ability to handle our
emotions and our relationships in a positive way. Drawing on the
authors’ own field observations as well as research into brain
functioning and chemistry, the authors demonstrate the connection
between emotional intelligence and leadership. Focusing on the four
domains of emotional intelligence: self-awareness, self-management,
social awareness, and relationship management- they explore what
contributes to and detracts from resonant leadership, and how the
development of these four EI competencies generates different leadership
styles. |
